For first time Machine Vision users, check out my article, Smart Cameras: Use, Selection, & Deployment, which was presented at the Robotics & Vision Show in Chicago, June 2003 and is part of their Proceedings CD, which sells on the Automated Imaging Association web site for $150. It is discusses the entire process of implementing a Machine Vision system from evaluating and selecting a Machine Vision Vendor, evaluating potential machine vision applications, selecting lighting and optics, and implementing the vision system using your own resources or outside systems integrators like Applied Vision Systems.
