Hypodermic Needle (Cannula) Sharpness and Alignment Detection

With new Safety Needles and no stick products in the Hypodermic Needle industry it is critical for many designs to align every needle to insure that the safety systems work properly without infringing on the use of the needle. For this industry we have developed a system consisting of lighting, optics, cameras, and software for determining needle orientation and deliver this information to a controller, robot, or PLC to properly align the needle before applying adhesive to the base. Typically we are accurate in our evaluation to less than 2 degrees of rotation depending on trigger repeatability and we can do the detection extremely quickly, upwards of 1200 ppm. In addition we can use the vision systems to detect sharp tips as well as detect blunted tips, because the only thing worse than getting a shot is getting a shot with a dull needle.
